Course Description

Engage in an immersive and interactive workshop featuring preserved specimens, comprehensive identification keys, and advanced dissection microscopes. Participants will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with a reference collection, enhancing their personal or company-based collections upon the conclusion of the workshop.

Laurel HansenDr. Laurel Hansen

Laurel Hansen has taught at Spokane Falls Community College since 1968 in the fields of biology, zoology, and pesticide education. She completed her B.A. at Eastern Washington State University, her M.S. and Ph.D. at Washington State University and serves as an adjunct professor at both universities.

She has continued to study carpenter ants and has been involved in a number of research projects involving biology and control since 1979. Her work has been published in trade magazines for the pest control industry and in scientific journals.

She received the Orkin Award for Research Excellence in 1993 and in 1999, the PCT/Syngenta Professional Crown Leadership Award: Class of 2006, Inducted into the 2015 PMP Hall Of Fame and co authored a book with John Klotz, titled Carpenter ants of the United States and Canada, in 2005 and a second book co authored with John Klotz, R. Pospichil, and M. Rust in 2008, Urban Ants of North America and Europe.
